I've been at this for weeks now, and I've finally succumb to asking for help. I bought an Acer Aspire 7741z-4626 and immediately started up iBoot. Booted Windows 7 once, said screw it and partitioned the drive. I'm able to boot Mac OS X 10.6 with no problems, the retail disk never fails to install, and I love it. But when it's time to upgrade (no graphics, ethernet or wifi) it's all just a big hurdle.
I used to get kernel panics every update, right at the end. 'Moving Items Into Place...' and BOOM have to manually reboot and re-install 10.6; I fixed that by using the 10.6.8 Update Helper, and now the upgrade is 'successful' but now after updating to 10.6.8 I can't boot at all. iBoot disk makes no difference. Either it hangs on...
systemShutdown False,
a bunch of 'ApplePS2AlpsGlidePoint: Dictionary Object:' text,
or
ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement) timed out.
Anyone know of any ways to bypass this? Once i successfully update and reboot, I can try getting wifi to work. Legend has it, Atheros 19287 works OOTB in Lion.
